Ancient Ritual Fire Dance Meet the Ancestors
Fire Dancing is one of the oldest pagan rituals in the Balkans that has been traced back to the ancient Tracians in Bulgaria who worshipped the sun.  This ancient custom has had to survive in some secrecy in recent times from both church and communism.

The Fire Dancers (Nestinari) say they are born to be Nestinari and carry out a mental preparation resulting in a trance-like state, together with other ritual preparation including the use of icons.  Whilst in their spiritual trance they are able to dance barefoot on burning embers without being burnt.
This is a low resolution copy of a photograph taken at a Fire Dance in a very small village in Bulgarian mountains near Nesebar.  To show that the camera lens was not dirty and that it was not raining, check out the copy of a photograph below that was taken 21 seconds earlier (by 'accident').  In the background is a ring of spectators where the colours orange and red are clearly visible and yet the fire in the foreground has lost its colour.  The fire was mainly orange to us spectators.  What is happening to reality here?  What is the reality to the Fire Dancer who is surrounded by the biggest and brightest spirit orbs? Full (LARGE) size image of the above orbs photograph
This photograph was taken at the Fire Dance only 21 seconds before the one above by accident (no such thing of course).  It shows some of the spectators next to us that formed a circle around the fire area.

For the technically minded, both photographs were taken with the same digital camera which was set at image size 1600 x 1200 auto, resulting in 1/60 Sec flash.
